So this past Sunday was Mijail’s first Father’s DayJ We had a great day!
A family that we study with regularly, Carlos and Norma,
invited us to their house for the day. Several of their children and other
friends were there for the festivities. We hung out, played soccer (well, I
watched!), and ate some great food!
The main activity was a Pachamanca, which is an awesome feast. To do a Pachamanca, you build a fire, and heat large rocks over the fire. When the rocks are good and hot, you remove them and put the fire out. Then you put potatoes, sweet potatoes, chicken, lamb, humitas, and beans in the fire pit, and the hot rocks are put in and around the food. You add herbs and spices to the top to give the food more flavor, then cover the pile with plastic. Then you let the food cook for about 45 minutes, and it’s ready. And believe me, the food is good! We ate so much, I thought I was going to pop. Here are some pictures from our day, helping prepare the pachamanca and enjoying it!
