Pamplona

So yesterday I had the opportunity to go out into one of the poorer neighborhoods of Lima. A new journeyman, Parker, in Lima had been going (for a couple weeks) with a Peruvian father (the pastor) and son to this neighborhood to work with a new church there. The church is small, but growing. However, the pastor, Victor wanted some young people to start coming to help him because there are no young people in the church. He was hoping that if some of us came, it would attract some of the younger people in the community to the church. So Parker invited me and two other girls, Mandy and Michelle, to go out with them and invite people to the service. So we arrived around noon, split up into smaller groups, and just walked up and down the streets talking to people and inviting to the service that evening. We then had the opportunity to have lunch in the home of one of the church members. She was so kind to fix food for all 6 of us! We ate chicken, potatoes, and rice...typical Peruvian food. After that, we girls were given the task of holding a Bible study for the kids in the area. So Mandy, Michelle, and I came up with a few songs, a Bible story, and a drama to go with it, all in about 30 minutes! That afternoon about 20 kids came to the Bible study. I think that it went great. We shared the story of the good Samaritan and how it applies to our lives today. The service that evening went well. About 30 people were in attendance, which was great!
I really enjoyed the day! It was long and exhausting (we were there literally the whole day!), but it was such a blessing. Victor has asked us to consider and pray about coming back regularly to help get the church on solid ground, and of course get some young people involved. I am praying about going back, and think it would be a great ministry to stay involved in!
